Cupping Therapy, also known as skin cupping, vacuum cupping, or just cupping, involves placing round cups directly on your skin to relieve pain from injuries, strains, sprains, inflammation, and more. It’s not a new type of therapy, and actually has been used since ancient times thousands of years ago. During those times, it was used to treat lung conditions like pneumonia and bronchitis.
When the cups are placed on the skin (they are sometimes heated and sometimes manually pumped to create suction), they encourage blood flow by the suction they produce. This increased circulation promotes healing and reduces pain. While the session can leave discoloration from broken blood vessels just beneath the skin, any side effects should disappear within 7-10 days.
